Seeking a little peace amid the busy and monotonous routine of life abroad, nearly a thousand Muslim tourists gathered at a mountain waterfall in South Korea. Muslim brothers living in different cities came together, many with their families, to enjoy the breathtaking beauty of nature.

All around were dense green hills, clear water cascading over the rocks, and the songs of birds. Some stepped into the water to feel the cool touch of the falls, others sat on the rocks chatting, and the children played happily. For people living far from home, meeting so many Muslim brothers in one place brought a feeling of home.

At such a sight, the heart spontaneously says: Subhanallah, glory be to Allah! Allah the Exalted says:

إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ لَآيَاتٍ لِّأُولِي الْأَلْبَابِ

"Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of night and day are signs for people of understanding." (Surah Al Imran, 3:190)

Islam does not discourage lawful recreation and travel in nature. Rather, it encourages reflection on the creation of Allah. Remaining mindful of prayer, modesty and good conduct even while travelling is the mark of a believer.

In the hard life of migrants, gatherings like this strengthen brotherhood and harmony. The unity and warmth of the Muslim community on Korean soil also presents a beautiful picture of Islam to others.
